Joan Sizer dies at 81. (July 5, 2013)
Joan Sizer died in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loved ones and hospice home health care after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Joan Carol Van Burkleo in 1931, Joan spent most of her lifetime as a San Benito girl, graduating San Benito High School in the class of 1948. She was employed by the San Benito School District for 27 years as a secretary in the office of Curriculum Instruction and secretary for Federal Programs. In 1999, she moved to Lampasas to enjoy retirement. Joan will be remembered by many for her wonderful soprano singing and her beautiful smile.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Frank Sizer, and four children, Linda Jenkins Scales (Laguna Vista), Mark Jenkins (Austin), Donna Jenkins Philippus (San Benito), and Beth Jenkins (Lampasas). Joan was very fortunate to have a supporting extended family which included four step-children: Liz Thomae Kabella, Joanne (Sissy) Thomae Harrison, Glen Allan Sizer, and Karen Denise Sizer Holbert. She was also the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Raised as an only child, Joan also considered her cousins, the Simmons families as her closest kin.
May Joan Van Burkleo, wife, mother, grandmother, find peace with the Lord.
