Specialist Zachary Lane New, age 21 died April 22, 2013 in Audie Murphy VA Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. Zachary was born March 3, 1992 in Decatur, TX the son of Jerry G. New and Karla J. (Turner) New. Zachary attended school in Lampasas, TX and graduated in 2010. He joined the U.S. Army and began a career of service. He had one tour of duty in Afghanistan and had most recently been stationed at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska. Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Karla New of Jarrell, TX Sister, Brittany Flores of Saginaw, TX Brother, Lance Flores of Jarrell, TX Maternal grandmother, Janice Turner of Knox City, TX And numerous other relatives including aunts, uncles and cousins Zachary was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Cecil Dale Turner and by his paternal grandmother, Marlene New Visitation for Specialist New will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Lampasas, TX. Burial with full military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
