Longtime community activist, Mrs. Jewel Milligan, age 80 of Lampasas, TX passed away Thursday February 21, 2013 at an Austin nursing facility. Born Mary Jewel Brice October 11, 1932 in Temple, Texas the daughter of James C. Brice and Annie Lillian (Coleman) Brice. Jewel grew up in Temple. She married Sherman L. Milligan in 1948 and they called Lampasas home for their remaining years. Sherman preceded Jewel in death November 5, 1984. Jewel was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Lampasas, served many years on the City Council, was a board member of CASA, served on the Planning and Zoning Commission, and was a member of the Democratic Party. Her professional career was spent serving as the Director of the Reach Center Title 20 in Lampasas and later was a teacher’s assistant at local elementary campuses.

Visitation will be held Friday evening March 1, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday March 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at New Covenant Church in Lampasas.
