SGM Robert Lee Pitts
Robert Lee Pitts, 86, of Lampasas, Texas went to be with the Lord on February 15, 2013.
Robert was born December 26, 1926, in Ft Worth, Texas to John Horace and Bertie Mae Pitts. His parents were totally committed to their children and provided a strong Christian home and values.
He met the love of his life, Billie Ruth Begley, while they attended high school in Coleman, Texas. They dated before and after his service in World War II and were married January 16, 1947. They spent over 60 wonderful married years together.
Besides his family, Robert loved the military. He began his career in the Army Air Corp Reserve and was inducted into the Air Corp in May, 1944. He served as a Load Master aboard the C-54 Skymaster in the Pacific from Australia to Japan. In 1948 he joined the Texas Army National Guard in Coleman and in 1957 was transferred to Lampasas serving with Heavy Mortar Company, 142nd Infantry, 36th Infantry Division. In 1968 he transferred to HQ Det, 371st Support Battalion until 1970 when he transferred to State Headquarters Staff at Camp Mabry in Austin. At Camp Mabry he served as a Military Personnel Section Chief until his retirement in 1986.
Robert was a patriot who loved America and its veterans. In his spare time he served as the Lampasas Veterans County Service Officer assisting all veterans in the area.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Billie, his parents, and sister, Margaret Moore.

Nine grandchildren: Tracy Stults and husband Travis, Tiger Aiwase , David Aiwase, Shami Aiwase, Matthew Pitts, ,Sarah Pitts, Jason Pitts, Jennifer Hess and husband Tony , and Christopher Pitts and wife Kat. Also, two step grandchildren John Matthew Kuker and wife Becca, and Jill Thomas and husband Heath.
Additionally there are eight great-grandchildren as well as 10 step great- grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday February 22, 2013 from 10 until 11 a.m. Graveside services will be conducted later Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Coleman City Cemetery.
