Willis Dowell Rushing

Doctor Willis Dowell Rushing passed away Feb 9, 2013 at the Olin E. Teague Medical Center, the Veterans Hospital in Temple, Texas. He was born July 2, 1944 in Pineville, Arkansas, the son of Dow Washington and Mary Eva Rushing. Mr. Rushing served more than 24 years in the US Air Force and US Army. He was a Viet Nam veteran, serving three tours of duty in honor of our country. He was a life-long member of AMVETs, DAVs, and a member of the American Legion Post 0582. He was a former Commander of VFW Post 8539. After retiring from the military, Mr. Rushing earned his PhD in Psychology from the University of Texas Medical Branch and worked as a psychologist for the Texas Department of Corrections. Mr. Rushing grew up in Pineville, Arkansas and Dallas County, Texas. He was married to Sarah Ellmaker for 37 years. He enjoyed his grandchildren and was an avid sportsman and rancher. Survivors include his wife Sarah of Lampasas; one son Eric Rushing of Redlands, California, and one daughter Cheri Deaver of Lampasas; two granddaughters, Erin Nobles and Rebecca Nobles of Lampasas; a brother, Thomas W Rushing of Pineville, Arkansas and a sister, Phyllis Dickerson of Pineville, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Wilma Dean, June Faye, and Wanda Ann. Visitation will be Tuesday February 12, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be Wednesday February 13, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel with burial at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX at 2:00 p.m.
