Velma Frances Johnson Brister age 92, of Lometa, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on October 18, 2012, surrounded by her daughters. She had lived in Lampasas County all of her life. Mrs. Brister was born on December 30, 1919, in Scallorn, Texas. She was the second child born to Jimmie Charlotte Johnson and Lawrence Johnson. Her early life was spent in small communities surrounding Lometa, but she lived most of her life in Lometa, Texas. She graduated from Lometa High School. She and George Tom Brister were married on October 14, 1939, in San Saba, Texas, and were blessed with 65 years of marriage and seven children. Mrs. Brister’s most important jobs were those of mother and homemaker; but she also worked in the library at Lometa High School, and she kept the nursery at The First Baptist Church in Lometa for many years. Mrs. Brister is survived by her daughters, Patricia Dorsey and husband Tommy, Judy McDonald, Janice Brister, and Anita (Tico) Hicks, her ten grandchildren, and her seven great-grandchildren, and her brothers Raymond Johnson and David Johnson and his wife Merry Gene. She was preceded in death by her husband George Tom Brister; her children Sammy Lawrence Brister, Nelda Kaye Brister Kammlah, and Rayford Howard Brister. Also, preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers Clarence Johnson, R. L. Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, and Cecil Johnson, and her sisters Mary Lee Faught, Zelma Pierce, and Lista Johnson. Mrs. Brister was a devout Christian and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lometa, Texas. The family will receive visitors on Sunday evening, October 21, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas, Texas. Funeral services for Mrs. Brister will be held on Monday morning, October 22, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lometa, Texas. Burial will follow at the Senterfitt Cemetery near Lometa. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Michael McDonald, Sammy Brister, Christopher Dorsey, Mason Kammlah, Matthew Kammlah, and Gregory McDonald. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Herring, Douglas Brister, Gary Gatliff, Richard Medders, and Ted Newsom. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Mrs. Brister’s name to Senterfitt Cemetery Association or to The Lometa Senior Citizen’s Center.
