Betty Ann Dickens Whitis, 80, passed away Friday, October 5, 2012 at her home in Lampasas. Betty Ann was born in Lampasas on September 18, 1932 to Sam Dickens Jr. and Cleo Craig Dickens. At the tender age of 5 she began discovering and developing her God-given musical talents when she began to play the piano and sing. Throughout her life, Betty Ann was always pleased and ready to utilize her musical talents to the glory of God through service to her home church as well as other Christian churches, groups and venues, the community, and those who requested her to play for important occasions.
Betty Ann graduated from Lampasas High School in 1950. She attended college at Mary Hardin-Baylor, earning undergraduate degrees in Piano and Music education. She also earned a masters degree in Music Education from Southwest Texas State University.
One of Betty Ann’s greatest life moments and sources of true happiness was her marriage to Weldon Kline Whitis. They shared 32 years together until Kline’s untimely passing in 1987. Together they raised two sons, Kelly Kline and David Samuel Whitis. Along with Kelly and David, she is survived by: David’s wife, Judi Taylor Whitis; three brothers in law, W.L. Whitis, Joe Rushing, and Maurice Whitis and their respective families, and two sisters in law, Jean Whitis and Wanda Whitis along with their families.
A memorial service in celebration of her much fulfilled life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Grace Fellowship Church in Lampasas. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel.
The family requests that memorials be given to: The LISD Benevolent Fund, The Kline Whitis and Betty Ann Whitis Scholarship Fund, and the Oak Hill Cemetery Association.
